Luckily that is how our world developed, knives are more often used for preparing food these days than for butchering people. A rather more peaceful thing to do. Slavery is also part of the American history, the attempt to extinct jews another example from Europe. You think we should still cling on to those beliefs too, just because for a lot of people that was the right thing to do/believe in at the time? Today, that would be totally outrageous (unless you were brought up in the 3rd world and thought it was a good thin - kind of like you thinking guns are great). It is time to evolve from "everybody can have a gun" too. People prove over and over again that "everybody CAN NOT have a gun". These get stolen, lost, end in the wrong hands. With a systematic elimination of guns, that CAN NOT even happen. If there were no guns, some kid can't walk into a school and shoot all his class mates and himself. Yeah, he can bring a hammer and assault someone, with some luck that someone can at least defend himself/herself, or at least a bunch of pepole won't get murdered by a wreckless person pulling the trigger. Improve the world. One person at a time will eventually work. We might not get to see too much as it can take a long time, and with reactionary people/fanatics being blind to core facts it will NEVER happen.

Thank you. Lawful gun ownership is a rich part of this nations history and the motivation to amend the Constitution of the United States was to allow fire arms to be used for defense for the citizens and that is its lawful intent. You mention intent. So, if one is harmed with a butchers knife should knives be banned too since they have been rooted in human history as a weapon?

Now Carl, again, you mention intent. The intent in this case was a humans opportunity to take an action and that is where the blame should reside.
