| Earlier this week, Hankook Ventus TD finally release for sale in the US. This is a new R-comp tire (very sporty racing tire but DOT marked so it can technically still be used on the street - for those who did't know). An R-comp tire is usually based on a racing tire rubber mix, and it's purpose is to be a lot faster and more responsive than a regular "street sport tire".
I had a chance to test Hankook Ventus TD a while back and I did a writeup that is actually being used on the new tire's website. Check it out here: http://ventustd.com/technicaldata.php
Hankook Ventus TD has an UTQG rating of 80 A/A, which puts it right into "Modified" / "Limited" time attack classes where tires such as Toyo R888, Nitto NT01 fit in with UTQG of 100 AA/A and Yokohama A048 with UTQG of 60 A/A. The UTQG rating is a number that is supposed to represent the threadwear rate and the letters symbolizes the traction of the tire, AA being stickier than a single A, B etc, as well as ability to withstand heat.
Needless to say, given the test results, and time attack results from Asia where the tire was release much earlier than in the US, I am looking forward to get my hands on a set and to go out and race!
