After a weekend of waking the City Tire 350Z up from winter sleep and not quite being able to resolve an oil leak, I got two laps on Sunday to set a time, with more oil seeping out by the minute, tried to avoid high rpm but sometimes I had to to not give the others a total walk-over. I was expecting the car to behave a lot worse but the few setup changes vs drift setup actually made the car very driveable, so come end of day I stand as winner of Modified RWD again. I want to thank City Tire and AE Performance for track support, you guys rock, and Hankook tire for outfitting the car with their outstanding Ventus RS3 tires. Pics and more details soon, first I will enjoy having Memorial day off!

SuperLap Vegas: Saturday recap
Sunday, May 23, 2010
For Saturday Superlap, the weather conditions offered a completely new playing field. Half the wind speeds, a track brushed/cleaned up by the track crew and approximately 20 degrees lower air temp saw limited teams cut 4-5 seconds per lap compared to the Friday test session. From a slick tire standpoint, that usually translates to even greater gains (a slick doesn't adapt as well to slippery conditions as a threaded tire).
Unfortunately I was only called in to drive for Crawford during the Friday test session to provide feedback and some idea of the potential of the car on this track, so I can only imagine how great it would have been to run during Saturday and get that 5 second faster track and some setup improvements to take advantage of. Maybe next time!
This SuperLap weekend was combined with Xtreme Drift Circuit's 2nd round of the 2010 season, and it was really nice to get together with a lot of the ProAm drifters (essentially top grassroots and some FD competitors getting in additional setup and development time on their rides). I helped my JustDrift team tandem buddy from my early drift days; Josh Guild (Vegas Drift) to be his spotter and I was stoked to see him put down a 75 point run in his yellow Nissan Silvia thereby taking 9th qualifying spot. The course was a big challenge with an up to 90mph entry and made tandem very competitive, definitely want to drift this course soon, looked liked very fun and good practice.
Next weekend it's Rd4 of Redline Time Attack (3rd West coast event) at Auto Club Speedway (Cali Speedway). Unfortunately my car has still not been found after being stolen, so I'm pretty much screwed for keeping up the battle for the Modified RWD Class title unless I find a competitive seat during this upcoming week. I just came off a win in Vegas, I'm in a solid 2nd place in the standings and the car was just about to get another 70-80 hp bump as well to follow-up with another class win at Auto Club Speedway. I hope something positive will happen on that end this week.Labels: Carbonetic, Crawford Performance, Drifting, Hankook, Racecar setup, Racing, SuperLap, Testing |

Thanks Hankook and Crawford!

It was a great experience working with Crawford today and to race such a well put together car. It's been increibly windy and dusty here today, yet we got good data for this car on this track and even though we can't directly compare times to Redline a few weeks ago, due to a longer track config today, we have sector times and comparisons to other regulars and I'm pretty sure it will be the car to watch out for. To share some non setup related impressions on how this beast is to drive, I'd say the car has an intense and responsive character and really rewards the driver who pushes it, kind of like a cool dog who just loves to run with you and the harder you run the happier it will be and it doesn't give a hint of getting tired or starting to limp. Solid build. It revs quickly with controlled aggression and the Tein chassis handles the over 600 wheel hp very maturely, and changing the center diff slightly would immediately release the hp to flow out a bit more to the Ventus C91 rear tires, amplifying the car's dynamic feel of a true driver's car. When the car hit the sweetspot in terms of handling in turns which weren't horrendously dusty, it's incrediby fun to drive and the faster you pitch it the greater the reward. Got to love that. The dust took out some of the cornering forces and played some games with balance in certain areas, but hey, it's a fast-fwd Subaru and some dust definitely doesn't change the fact that this is one of the absolute fastest Superlap cars around.

The car has been stolen. If you see it, or parts from it, let me know.
Thursday, May 6, 2010
Someone has stolen the car, only about a week after I won with it in Las Vegas (between 2.30am and 3.30am Monday morning, May 3rd, to be more exact). Like posted on every Porsche, racing and tuner board and called out through the community, contact Redondo Beach PD if you see or hear anything unusual popping up on the market or rumours through the grapevine, and keep up sending me links to ads for similar cars and parts. Thanks sooo much for all your help, the response is really amazing.
The thieves could potentially be able to find their way here online and if so, then here's some info:
1. The car you stole is a previously crashed/accident car and has a salvage title.
2. It is used to compete in Redline Time Attack. It is not a GT2.
3. It has a lot of 1-off parts from sponsors and tuners that can't be offered for sale anywhere without people recognizing it - the whole Porsche community is alerted, so 1000s of Porsche owners, racers, tuners and raceteams are scanning for ads for any part that may come from this car.
4. The car you stole is so well known by everyone in the Porsche and tuner racing community, that you can't bring it anywhere.
5. There are not many Porsche Turbos around. Even fewer in the mod scence. It will take less than 2 minutes to ID the car even with significant changes to it's appearance, so if a new hot car suddenly shows up with someone it will be ID:d, or if a new guy shows up on the scene with a built/custom car it will also be ID:d in a minute.
Please just park it somewhere public where the police can find it.
