SuperLap Vegas: Saturday recap
Sunday, May 23, 2010
For Saturday Superlap, the weather conditions offered a completely new playing field. Half the wind speeds, a track brushed/cleaned up by the track crew and approximately 20 degrees lower air temp saw limited teams cut 4-5 seconds per lap compared to the Friday test session. From a slick tire standpoint, that usually translates to even greater gains (a slick doesn't adapt as well to slippery conditions as a threaded tire).

Unfortunately I was only called in to drive for Crawford during the Friday test session to provide feedback and some idea of the potential of the car on this track, so I can only imagine how great it would have been to run during Saturday and get that 5 second faster track and some setup improvements to take advantage of. Maybe next time!

This SuperLap weekend was combined with Xtreme Drift Circuit's 2nd round of the 2010 season, and it was really nice to get together with a lot of the ProAm drifters (essentially top grassroots and some FD competitors getting in additional setup and development time on their rides). I helped my JustDrift team tandem buddy from my early drift days; Josh Guild (Vegas Drift) to be his spotter and I was stoked to see him put down a 75 point run in his yellow Nissan Silvia thereby taking 9th qualifying spot. The course was a big challenge with an up to 90mph entry and made tandem very competitive, definitely want to drift this course soon, looked liked very fun and good practice.

Next weekend it's Rd4 of Redline Time Attack (3rd West coast event) at Auto Club Speedway (Cali Speedway). Unfortunately my car has still not been found after being stolen, so I'm pretty much screwed for keeping up the battle for the Modified RWD Class title unless I find a competitive seat during this upcoming week. I just came off a win in Vegas, I'm in a solid 2nd place in the standings and the car was just about to get another 70-80 hp bump as well to follow-up with another class win at Auto Club Speedway. I hope something positive will happen on that end this week.
